in Credit cards
I bought some imitation wooden flooring on my Goldfish card in 2010. The company who installed it has subsequently gone out of business. A couple of weeks ago the flooring begain to lift and go bouncy in a number of places, and we have been informed this is because it was not fitted correctly. In the abscence of being able to claim back from the installers i am interested to know if we have any coverage under the fact that we paid for the floor on our Golddfish card, Consumer Credit Act etc. Any helpful feedback much appreciated

You can normally take legal action for up to 6 years.
But you still have to prove the fault and why the supplier is liable, either because of a warranty or guarantee, or because the goods weren't satisfactory for the job. You may need a report from someone independent to confirm what the problem is.
But if you didn't use a credit card to pay the tradesman / company who fitted the flooring, you can't claim against the credit card company.
A supplier (or your credit card company under joint liability) is only responsible for goods or services that it provided. You can't claim against a shop if a tradesman you employed separately does a sub-standard job with the goods you bought - that's not the shop's fault. We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.

Thanks for your response very useful as was the link
We paid for both the flooring and installation on our credit card but as a result of them doing a bad job on the installation the flooring is effectively ruined so will have to start again. Not sure if the credit card covers us for both replacement floor and installation costs?0 -

The obvious question would be is it was so bad why has it taken 21 months+ for you to raise the issue?
You would need to show that it was a problem caused by the installation and then I doubt that you will get full cost of replacement/installation , at most full cost reduced by a 'wear and tear' allowance for the 2 years you've been living with it.0 -
has water been spilt and soaked in?Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

In short, paying with a CC doesn't give any more RIGHTS than paying any other way.
What it does is give you another party (with deeper pockets) to claim your existing legal rights against, but you may still have to prove things just as if you were taking action against the original retailer.
In general, if a tradesman damages your property through shoddy workmanship, they would be liable for the cost of repair or remedy; but unlike a faulty TV it can be difficult to prove one way or another. We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.
