eBay, part of item I have bought is missing!

Hi there, just looking for a bit of advice from you helpful people :0)
I spent over £40 on eBay (all three purchases were bought from the same seller) it was 3 jars I bought but unfortunately one of the lids is missing from them. I sent seller a polite email stating that one of the jars wa missing its lid and the reply I got back from him said that he had double checked them all personally and that the postage and packaging all weighed up to the lid being there. I have emailed him back saying what use is a jar without a lid to me, yet to hear back from him. This is the first problem I've ever had on eBay. If I were to open a SNAD would I get my money back? So tempted to trash his feedback for his cheekiness haha.
Many thanks

  • This is the email I have received from seller
Hi thank you very much for your order. The order was double checked by myself and signed at the bottom of the packing slip letter A. Each jar is taken out of its packaging and througly checked before the items went out and I have checked the postal weight and this is correct on our receipt and the package. There would be a difference of minus 50 grams without the lid.
  • I would reply with a photo and say, "and yet, here's my parcel sans lid" :p

Or just open a SNAD. You'll have to return it but then he'll have to refund you or send you a new one.

Not sure it's worth the hassle for him when he could just send you a lid! Unless they're very expensive lids of course. I assume not?
"So long and thanks for all the fish" :hello:
  • Thanks for replying :0) I paid £14.50 for this particular jar (treated myself with birthday money I got, it's to go in my new kitchen)
He has over 14000 feedback so is obviously a big business! I just feel that he would have been just as well replying that I was at it and chancing my arm to get a lid?! What use is a storage jar without a lid? I have emailed him back asking if we can resolve this without me having to open a dispute case, no reply yet! I can leave three feedbacks as I bought three jars separately. I have only ever left positive feedback for sellers in the past but very tempted to leave negative if he's not willing to cooperate. Is tht petty?
  • No, it's not petty at all. After all, feedback is meant to be a reflection of the whole transaction, so if the seller is totally uncooperative, how can this be positive?

I'm guessing that he may be thinking that you've dropped a lid and broken it and are hoping to get a free replacement. However, at the end of the day it's your word against his and, as a seller on ebay, he just has to accept that he must replace or refund on return.
  • Hi, if the seller does not send out a new lid or give you a refund (plus postage costs) then I would probably leave a neg for that one jar. I wouldn't neg for the other two because seller could probably complain to ebay and get them all removed. Use your stars though.
    Good luck
I must remember that "Money Saving" is not buying heavily discounted items that I do not need. :hello:

Feedback should reflect how the transaction went and if you feel that it was a negative experience then your feedback should reflect that with factual comments.

Personally I don't think you are being petty, as a seller I expect to meet the reasonable expectations of the buyer (which is your case it is reasonable as a storage jar without a lid isn't much good) and as a buyer I expect the seller to at least try to resolve any problems I have.

You are being reasonable while the seller seems unhelpful, so as it stands, neutral/ negative comment may be appropriate
  • Hi, glad you don't think I'm being petty :0) it's a soft plastic lid so he must know I can't have broken that! He said that he had taken it all out the packaging and checked it so I'm just wondering I he forgot to put the lid back in as the lids were individually wrapped with the other jars. I'm quite angry about the whole thing and the fact that he is now ignoring my messages! He has until the end of the day to get in touch or I will be opening a dispute! I'm in fighting mode now haha. Was just a bit concerned that I wouldn't get my money back when he started going on about the parcel being the correct weight based on the lid being there. My husband says I've to sen the whole bloody lot back haha x
  • Easiest thing is to phone the seller, if their number isn't on the listing it can be requested here:

  • Thanks for that link, I will check on his page for a telephone number and if there's not one there will request it. I will get my husband to do it as I am hopeless on the phone to strangers. I end up stuttering and repeating myself (don't know why that happens ha) x
  • Hi, thanks everyone all of you for all your helpful advice, I really appreciate it! I love this site, it has really helped me with eBay info as well as paying off my debts :0)
I've had a successful ending to this as the seller has just emailed me back saying sorry and he will be sending a replacement lid! I am wondering of he has found my lid lurking somewhere?!
Will wait until I have te lid before leaving any feedback xx
