David Lloyd increasing fees in a sneaky way!

I've been a member for 6 years now and the fees go up every year by a couple of quid or so, so I expect a letter at this time of year. Normally they're quite honest and explain what improvements they've made or planning to do and how much the fees will be increasing.
This year I got the usual letter listing how much we they'd done, etc but was surprised to see no mention of fees going up. In the envelope was a 'Certficate of Membership' which I've never had before. This showed the type of membership, home club, etc and also showed the monthly fees - they were more than I pay now and this was the only clue I had that they were increasing.
I understand that fees go up and I've come to expect this but I would've appreciated a more honest letter saying that the fees were going up. The way they did this seems to be a bit sneaky!

I suspect these letters aren't generally received with such understanding, so now they are trying a new, sleazy tactic of being less direct about what has changed.
Gym membership prices are generally negotiable, perhaps explain to them you think it's getting quite expensive and considering leaving but would be happy to stay if they honoured the price you've paid over the last year0 -
I have been a member for 12 years and have always received a letter detailing the fee increase in the Sept, but not this year.
I subsequently found out that the fees were indeed going up so asked why no letter.
The response from head office was if the increase is less than 4% then legally they do not have to inform us???
My increase is 3.9%...
Such a disgusting line to take.
So if you are a David Lloyd member and have not received a letter yet I would check with the club and I would expect a 3.9% increase.0 -
Eh? Isn't that utter BS?
AFAIK, the only legal aspect is that a "low" level increase may not trigger a material detriment escape clause in a contract. If you pay by direct debit then ANY change in payment MUST be notified in advance of such payment being taken.0
