Mondeo tdci glow plug light flashing -turbo troubles?
2007 mk3, 2.0ltr, 78000 mile, diesel repeatedly going into limp home mode. This usually happens when engine is cold in the morning ; after it warms up a bit and I restart car it is ok(unless I rev it hard)
Ford Garage has diagnosed faulty turbo - £830 to replace
Does this diagnosis sound right to you or could it just be a faulty sensor?
How would I find out?
Or is it best to just swallow it and pay up?
Thanks

You really need the fault codes to marry up with your symptoms before throwing money at it. Could be that the turbo is gone but that could be knackered or just gunged up. You then have to follow the gunk through the system, the inlet manifold and the egr valve to find the original fault.0

i would start at the egr valve and inlet manifold and give it a good cleanout. The build-up of soot in the egr is what causes most glow plug lights to flash.0

EGR troubles do not cause the glowplug light. EGR causes the engine light
to come on.
Glowplug light is fuelling and turbo issues etc.
What was the fault code?

Are you sure? A blocked EGR would result in low boost even though the turbo was running flat out. A blocked EGR would result in overfuelling being detected in the exhaust gases.0

Thanks for replying folks.
Havn't got a code ;wasn't told it.
Wouldn't an EGR restriction be just as bad after engine is warm as when cold though?
The car went to a back street garage when it first occurred who claimed he had a code reader and changed the glow plugs , which didn't help. Then went to ford who came up with faulty turbo
I guess it's a problem when cold due to higher oil viscosity? although, as I said, it will still do it if i give it some welly.0 -

When my EGR failed on a Ford diesel the glowplug light flashed like crazy. Breakdown assist diagnosed it before hooking up the computer and he was spot on.0 -
As they want to charge him for a new turbo i guess the codes the P132A or P132B, Sticky vane or actuator issue.
But without the proper code it's a guessing game.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
oh my god its two cars with failed turbos in the space of a few weeks what are the chances lol
