Odd term (I think) in returns policy

Hi, just returning an item I bought recently (it wasn't a SAD FART, unfortunately) online. My return has gone just fine; had the thing less than 7 days and discovered its just utter junk.
But in the process I was looking at the company return policy and found this:
Is it right that they could do this?

Any Orders that are over 6 months old and the Product has been confirmed to be defective and a refund is due, the refund will be calculated based on the age of the Order and you will be refunded a proportionate amount of the original purchase price of the Product.
Is it right that they could do this?
Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

Arguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon: no matter how good you are at chess, its just going to knock over the pieces and strut around like its victorious.

It's perfectly legal and in line with what the SOGA allows although not many retailers would use this procedure for goods that are only 6 months old.(3)For the purposes of this Part, if the buyer rescinds the contract, any reimbursement to the buyer may be reduced to take account of the use he has had of the goods since they were delivered to him0

The legislation does not even stipulate the items have to be 6 months old before they can make a proportionate refund.Thinking critically since 1996....0

You said you just bought it recently, so why shoult the 6 month term bother you?0

Why shouldn't someone be curious about a term and ask about it? Even if it didn't directly affect them?
Isn't that what this board is about? Not everything has to directly affect the person asking the question.0
