Fruit and Veg that just keeps giving?
Hi,
Not sure if any of the green fingers on here can answer this questions. My OH and I are looking for fruit and veg that keeps giving. For example I have herbs I bought years ago and I just go outside cut off a bit and it stays there like a bush until I need the next lot.
OH suggested Rubarb and Blackberrys, don't need to do the blackberrys as there are loads in walking distant from us but we are going to do the rubarb.
So are there any other fruit and veg that are like this? I haven't got any space for a trees but I do have a front garden that we just completly dug out (just dirt at the moment) that we could plant loads of things in.
Am I being crazy? I have grow veg etc in pots but haven't got time at the moment as I have a 6 month old. Can't wait till LO is older and then I can get her involved as well! But until then this seems like a good comprimise.
Cheers,
:j

Some veg that produce over a long season include chard, some varieties of lettuce and rocket. Chard stems are a bit yuck but the leafy part is like spinach. It can help to do multiple sowings, one each week, to spread out the harvest.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0

Perpetual spinach and land cress are good, artichokes I think are perennial0

Raspberries - especially autumn fruiting ones
French beans0 -
Runner beans and raspberries, I have the Autumn fruiting ones and I've been picking for a month now and there are still loads that I'm going to open freeze and pack up for the winter..#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

You have got to have some strawberry plants then. While they will not be everlasting, if you start off with a small number they will eventually provide you with runners and multiple new plants. I started with a dozen and now have about 100 at any point and the fruit has been superb.0

There are some strawberries which fruit from late spring to autumn. I have some, called Albion. But do put down slug pellets.
By the way, perpetual spinach is chard.

Gooseberries...and asparagus if you've got the time to prepare a bed - you won't get any for the first couple of years. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0

Jerusalem artichokes - I planted some around 10 years ago, can't get rid of them however hard I try!!0

Oooo all sorts, depends how adventurous you are!
Lots of soft fruit bushes - raspberries, strawberries, red/white/blackcurrants, goji berries....
Chard is pretty much indestructable
Runner beans are good (apart from mine barely got going this year), ditto courgettes and squashes in a nice warm summer
Artichokes (globe or Jerusalem)
Rhubarb
Most herbs
Have a gander here too http://annisveggies.wordpress.com/about/ (a blog I follow)0
