Many people have a very poor sense of smell, you can't prove the outgoing resident is not one of them. If having a fully functioning heating and hot water was particularly important to you, you should have had your own tests or serving done before purchase. Welcome to home ownership.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

If the meter cupboard is under the stairs could the air fresheners not be for shoes also stored there?!
Quite possibly, but 6 of them on and around the meter? My partner complained about the smell within a couple of hours of us moving in, only a couple of hours of the owner moving out.. i certainly can't prove he was trying to mask the smell but it looks it.Many people have a very poor sense of smell, you can't prove the outgoing resident is not one of them. We were given a gas safety record for the whole system (fire, boiler, gas meter, etc..) this was done by the previous owner as soon as we put an offer in, we had no reason to do it again.
It's all sorted now anyway, we got someone out and it cost £85 to have it repaired, the nice man also capped the fire for us so thats ready to be pulled out as well. He explained the leak wasn't the worst he had seen so the last inspector might have deemed it OK, he said some companies standards are lower than others.
He also said we're lucky we don't smoke or it could have easily went up, people have been smoking in the house though as we have had lots of friends/family in helping with the move who have been sparking up. That's very frightening.0 -
The property had a Gas safety check on the 2-08-12 so less than 2 months ago.
Part of the GSC should be a leak test ( DROP TEST) to see if the gas pipes are leaking.
The GSC should have the name and details of the Gas safety engineer who did the test.
Look his/her name up on the gas safe register and ring them up NOW>
ask the question did you do a GSC on this property and tell them it has a leak ( ask them to fix it now) or report them to the GSR0
