Vacuum brake bleeding kits - any good?

I've used various "one man" brake bleeding kits in the past and never had much success - the last attempt with one that uses a link to a tyre to pressurise the brake fluid reservoir simply dumped half a bottle of fluid down the inner wing of my van!

So... thinking of trying a MiniVac. Has anyone here used one, and is it really a one-man operation on a typical modern car?

  • They are great items. Right upto the point where you realise its sucked the resevoir dry.

Ahh had a proper look i thought it was a proper job that attaches to an airline.

Its a cheap pump action sucker. Is it a cheap chinese item?

Hard to beat a 2 man job. Failing that a proper vac setup run off an airline
but with a refill bottle so you dont drain it.

That's Ok for me - I won't be in a hurry, so I would suck out the old fluid in the reservoir and fill it brim full before starting to bleed.

Errr - no. It might be made in China for all I know but it's made to ISO 9002 and is CE marked, and it isn't (for a non-professional user) cheap at about £50.

Sorry if I misunderstand you, but my understanding of the term airline suggests using compressed air, which unless I'm missing something obvious isn't going to be very helpful on a vacuum brake bleeder...
