Idiot's guide to the iphone?
A kind relative has given me an iphone - my starting point is I've never had a smart phone before and I have no idea which iphone it actually is. I just have the phone and no other info other than the network it's been operating on. I've already managed to delete everything including the operating system off the phone and spent a happy evening on itunes trying to reinstate it.
Having finally got the blasted thing up and running again, is there a simple online guide to the basic do's and don'ts before I do anything else daft, and which will help me to use it properly without running up huge extra bills on top of the contract?
Thanks

All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Just do what everyone else does and play around with it, it's hard to screw up a smartphone.0 -
That's what I thought till till I deleted the whole thing and couldn't reload it without getting lots of error codes. Not an evening I wish to repeat - I thought I was just zapping photos and content, not wiping the whole thing. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Google is your friend.........also check the Apple website and Apple forums as there is loads of useful stuff on there. There are also freebies which can be downloaded via itunes like the full user manual. How old is the phone? Can you not ask your kind relative what model it is? It is likely to be a 3, I would think, but your relative may have upgraded to a 5 and given you their 4 or 4s......0

Switch it on.

iphones and andriod based devices are like bmws and skodas.
the skoda does the same job.. but people just feel the bmw is worth the extra dosh
Not quite right as it can be argued that Android phones can do more than Iphones. A more accurate comparison would be that iphones are like the most basic model of a particular BMW - they look good but don't do anything special. An android by contrast would be like the top spec model of a particular Skoda. They might not look as aesthetically pleasing but they pack a lot more punch and you get more for your money.0 -
Continuing the analogy you can drive the Skoda anywhere you want, but the BMW has to use only approved routes and has to fill up at BP pumps.0
