First time seller...pricey item?

Hi l've been a member of ebay for a few years now but have never bought or sold anything :o
I want to sell some tickets for a concert next week (12 days time) that l can no longer make, the concert has sold out so the tickets are selling for quite a bit more than they are worth.

But from looking online the one tip people always give is that you shouldn't sell a pricey item for your first sale?
So should l try and buy some things tonight in the hope l get some feedback, is this even possible in this time frame?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

If you are new to eBay you may not notice scams or problems and that is one reason why it is often suggested you sell smaller items first. It is also the case that many buyers will not buy high end items from a new seller as it isn't worth the hassle.

It might be worth selling them via a re sale site and getting your money back rather than attempting eBay. If you do go down the eBay route you need to be absolutely sure you kow what yu are doing. Maybe a 7 day BIN from this evening with immediate payment required . That means you can post next Monday special delivery and hopefully allow enough time for the buyer to get them even if he isn't in when the poise first delivers, and has to go and collect from the sorting office.

Just remember your seller preferences need to be exceptionally tight , no overseas buyers etc. make sure thAt you check out the sticky postage thread as well to understand PayPal requirements .

  • Thanks for the advice :)

I've been reading through all the new seller sections on ebay. Have never sold anything through a re sale site either. I was going to do it on a 5 day listing is this maybe a better idea seing as it is soon? Also l've set up a paypal account but ebay help also recommends that you get paypal verified, is this essential?

    Thanks for all your help!

They will probably withhold your funds for 28 days if not verified.

New seller with high priced item they may restrict you anyway.

  • Ah right...this is all getting a bit complicated! :o

Can l put my listing up now and apply to have my account verified at the same time? Apparently this takes a few days?

    Thanks for all your help!

If you are doing a BIN you have no idea how quickly it will sell. If doing a standard auction you are running short of time as you can't do an immediate payment required.

The 21 day hold will almost certainly apply but you will of course need to post immediately regardless of not acing funds available
