Double Glazing - DIY or Company

Hi

Need to replace windows and doors on a bungalow and I really want to keep the price down.

Here's my dilema:

A company have quoted £4000 for cash - front door, back door, and 6 windows - one of the windows is a bay with 6 panes. The price includes £700 for fitters.

but, I know a good window fitter - who can do the installation - but is the saving likely to be good if I buy the DG direct?

Does anyone know?

we have just been through this. experienced window fitter in the family who works for free against supply and fit. we had two supply only quotes and three supply and fit. saving was 10% to do ourselves on one of the quotes with very little saving on the other.didn't seam worth the effort therefore gone for supply and fit. by the time I had haggled one of the supply only quotes became more expensive. savings mounted up a little more if bought of the shelf windows but then they wouldn't have been perfect fit and bay would have been poor.

guess it depends on whether you can find a supplier who is willing to give you a price to make it work. does your fitter have an account and can get trade discount to give you the windows at cost?
  • mmmm price for cash, be careful with that are they still going to give you the receipt & warrentee, nothing wrong with using an independant installer if he can give you the fensa paperwork afterwards as you will need this if you sell.

  • Yes, still getting receipt and FENSA certification.

Perhaps I should get a third quote before making any decisions.
