thank you ginger tony I shall try it too.
The instant potato didn't go down too well so I'm hoping for better results with the tinned ones.
The first time I tried the instant mash, the boys weren't keen, but what I've done since then is make it up, put in a pyrex dish, put marge or grated cheese on top and put in the oven while I'm cooking something else (usually sausages) in there - lovely!0 -
I can't wait for Aldi's to open here...Instant mash can be fine and a little bit of adaption makes all the difference."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

Just read through this thread and have decided to stock up again. I have only just run down my stocks as use by dates were getting nearer and I wanted to defost my chest freeezer (still havent managed it!)
One thing I will say is look at cokking methods, i bought a remoska about 3 years ago when the energy prices first started going up and I've never looked back. http://www.lakeland.co.uk/2511/Standard-Remoska-Electric-Cooker?src=gpelc&gclid=CKic3qS_hbMCFe_MtAodDVgAJg
It uses very little electric and I bake cakes and roast chickens in it. It actually tastes better than the oven. Baked or roast spuds are nice in there too.
I have been shopping at a1di for years now, i went to L1dl for a while but seemed to spend more for some reason so stick mainly to a1di now. I watch out for the money off coupons they have in the paper and stock up when they are on.
I am feeling quite pleased with myself as I have been to the co-0p today and on the reduced section they had dried fruit for 86p so I got a few bags, they seem to be selling off their baking range at the mo.
I have been having porridge for brekky these days and making meat dishes spin out with loads of veg and pulses and lentils.
Todays dish is a curry which I have made in a box! I have a pan that fits exactly into this polystyrene box I have which is recycled from somewhere or other, I make the curry in this pan and when it is boiling piping hot, I plunge it into the box (with lid on of course) and cover it all up all day, the meat and carrots are all cooked beautifully and the energy costs are minimal. Good energy saving tip..Save £12k in 2012 no.49 £10,250/£12,000
Save £12k in 2013 no.34 £11,800/£12,000
'How much can you save' thread = £7,050
Total=£29,100
Mfi3 no. 88: Balance Jan '06 = £63,000. :mad:
Balance 23.11.09 = £nil.0 -
Kittie, that is really worrying.
Desperate Housewife, your curry in a box idea has inspired me. I have cooked dinner in the slow cooker for me and OH three nights running but the next time he is working late I will try a curry for myself in a box.
I grow mustard and cress and sprout seeds indoors and am starting on herbs and indoor pea shoots (from dried peas) after reading this article on winter salads:
