Advice or replacing timing belt?
Options
I've been told we should replace the timing belt on our Zafira B, The local car parts place is looking £130 for a timing belt kit, I can't afford that to be honest and want to do this as cheap as possible, I have found kits on eBay for £60+ would these be OK? Something like this for example?
Also someone mentioned we should replace the water pump at the same time, do we need to replace anything else at the same time?

Do not neglect changing the timing belt if it is due. £130 for the kit will seem like a bargain if the belt snaps and causes catastophic engine damage, and actually is very reasonable. It is a good idea to change the water pump at the same time. The kit will include everything needed. I wouldn't do this on the cheap through e-bay personally, but it is up to you if you want to risk it.I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0

Have you looked on the Euro car parts website? dont skimp here as if it goes wrong, your car could be a write off in financial terms.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

The belt and braces method is to replace the water pump at the same time. The problem on Vauxhalls isn't the belt but the piece of crud tensioner system.
If you buy a kit from eBay then it will probably be the same kit. The only problem is if the kit fails, you will have to seek redress from the eBay seller who will blame the garage, who will blame the eBay seller. At least if the garage supplies and fits the part then you have one point of redress. The man without a signature.0 -

I did, a kit from Dayco is £71, is Dayco a decent enough make?0 -
I've heard of dayco never used them but I don't think they'd be in business long if things like cambelts were failing.
Many zafiras having timing CHAINS. Are you sure yours isn't one of them?0 -

For £1.14 more delivered, i'd go for this GATES kit. Respected brand, i've used them a lot with no issues.

Is this gen Vauxhall or am I reading it wrong? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vauxhall-Timing-Belt-Kit-93191277-Fits-Astra-Signum-Vectra-Zafira-1-9D-8-Valve-/190662624437?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2c6460c4b5#ht_2560wt_12710 -
Who will be fitting your belt?
If you supply the garage and its the wrong part the bill will likely increase.
If the belt snaps and wrecks the engine the garage will say its your part you sort it.
If they supply and fit the belt its down to them and their supplier.
You can save money buying a cheap no name belt but who pays £1000++
when it snaps and wrecks the engine?
