first time utility bill payer, who to choose?

hi, my friend is about to move into a council house, she's never had to pay bills before due to living with her mum and various friends. Due to her not having any comparison prices who would be the best energy company to deal with.

    The existing one(s) ;)

What did you do when you had your first home and had to contact the utility suppliers?

Existing one is a good choice, but make sure she phones up and asks for their best tariff.

They all have a horrible practice of placing you automatically on a default tarif that universally costs about 4 or 5 times more than it needs to. Phone straight away and ask for a cheaper one, even if she plans on moving elsewhere eventually...
  • that was 30 years ago and there was not many to choose from then. If you want to know though it was was the YEB for electric, British gas and BT for phone. there were no comparison sites then and no computers either. so thanks for no help.
  • Thankyou mqandy, i'll pass your info on.
  • I just moved into a place and went with Scottish Power. Theyre offering to fix your prices (so your protected against price increases for a few years) AND there is no termination fee, so if you find a cheaper deal meanwhile, you can switch with no costs!

    Good luck x
