they needed an extra payment because they liked the heating on all day, and sky all-day and a 5 bed council house - blimey is he still doing this 8 years later..... sky all day was an essential right and anyone else on benefits was apparently depriving them of cash they should get to lump.....

Ah. I don't remember that one, but my memory's not what it was. I do remember his claims to be a top civil servant, rich, with massive expensive houses, who was claiming every benefit going or, well, or whatever.

Boring little man (my apologies to men!), pathetic little fantasist.

Zaksmum, glad you got the extra.

    You're welcome. I didn't know about S2P before this thread -- it's a good idea.

As an example dad has worked for over 40 years with no unemployment, sickness etc. His salary peaked in the mid to late 90's. for the 7 years before he turned 60 his net monthly salary was £5633 - (gross in excess of £100,000pa) at age 55 circa.
Yet his state pension for all of that money paid in is £167.84 a week!!!

But he and mum are doing so well in other ways and of course you stand to benefit too....;)

Being ill or disabled is rarely a lifestyle choice.
The unemployed do not get S2P contributions.

They also need to live to state pension age. Most people so ill/disabled they can not work have a significantly reduced life expectancy.

That's what happened to my first husband. His health was on a downward spiral from 1973, didn't work from 1976, died from heart disease in 1992. He was 57, so he didn't live to pension age.

I think you can also inherit state pension from a spouse.

You can certainly inherit SERPS/S2P from a spouse, but it depends on which year you were born, how much of it you can inherit. I can inherit 100% of DH's and he can inherit 100% of mine because of the year we were born.

I think, for a woman if you're getting 60% of what your husband gets from his contributions, and he dies, you then move up to 100% of it, again through your late husband's contributions. Whether it works the other way round - wife to husband rather than husband to wife - I've no idea.

Yes, I asked 'payback and compensation, for what?' I still don't know.
