Raising money for overseas cause

I want to raise money for a cause in the US. It is not a charity, but definitely non-profit. I intend to do this via a website with donations made to PayPal. Donations are likely to come from the US, UK and Europe. PayPal will operate the account in US dollars. So far, so good! But, they need a bank account, and I need a bank account to put the money in. It would seem sensible if this was in dollars too. Also, if we succeed in raising the money, an amount in dollars ($30 -$35,000) will need to be sent to the US.
I may be making mountains out of molehills, but how do I avoid frequent currency conversions, and questions about money laundering? Any suggestions about where to get this bank account (which will have no real activity on it, to make it worthwhile to the bank)? It seems as if it would be easy if I lived in the US, but I don't!
I realise this sounds like it could be a scam - truly it's not.
