Car Insurance nightmare over no claim

Options
Hi everyone,

just after a little advice from anyone in the know please.

last September whilst I was asleep in bed someone hit my car which was parked outside my house. It did a considerable amount of damage. i contacted the police who advised me they had no reports of any incidents. I then phoned my insurance company to ask if i had to claim
1. how much would my excess be.
2. how much would my premium increase if i did claim and
3. who would be best to take the car to in my local area for a quote on the repair.

So I took my car to the recommended garage who wanted to charge over £600:mad:
I then found someone else willing to do the job for £400

My excess was £350 and the premium hike meant it was not worth me claiming - so I didnt!:(

When I came to renew my policy the insurance company recorded my phone call and logged it on my policy claiming I had had an accident. My premium rocketed as a result. I went with another company instead. Then I got told 2 months into the policy my premium was going to increase by £80 because of the accident I was involved in!!!!!

This is just so unfair... now I need to renew the policy again and I have to tell them I have an accident on my profile. I have received extortionate quotes as a result. But this was not my fault, I never claimed, I paid £400 for the repairs and now I am still being punished for parking outside my own house. Can I get this removed from my insurance profile????? Please help:)

You cannot have the accident removed. It was correctly recorded on your history when you reported it!

You will need to declare it to other insurers over the next 3-5 users depending on how long a history they ask about.

Contact your last Insurers and make sure they have recorded it as an "Incident".

Many will open a file and await a claim until they hear otherwise
  • I feel for you op, similar thing happened to me. I went into the back of a car at a roundabout (thought he had moved off whilst l checked right). Exchanged details etc, both agreed to let insurers handle it. I notified my insurer of the accident, the other party never made a claim, never heard from him etc and because l had notified my insurers its classed as a claim.

Crazy crazy systems out there designed to get as much out of us.
