Potential Fault with your electricity meter -anyone else receive a letter?

We received a letter from our electricity supplier on Friday, writing to inform of us of a potential fault with our electricity meter. Apparently they are sending someone to change our meter. However after searching on the internet, I cannot find any information relating to this "issue". I was just wondering if anyone here has received a similar letter?

There is a rolling programme of meter replacement across the country and it is managed by your current electricity supplier.
If you still have a rotating disc meter, it is due to be replaced as part of this programme.
If you have recently changed supplier and still have this type of meter, your new supplier will arrange for it to be changed, particularly if you have missed or ignored a previous letter.
If you haven't changed supplier, you remain on the rolling programme for it to be changed and they will get to you at some point.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
Had my meter changed a week ago as the night time tarrif stopped working and was adding all the consumption on the daytime tarrif which has been going on since feb 2011. Should be getting some rebate soon.I hate migraines.0

Thank you for your answers. We have a digital meter which was fitted in 2007. i was just intrigued to what the fault could possibly be as the letter didn't give too much away. I feel better though that others have had their meters replaced. Hopefully if our bill is affected, it will be in a positive way to us!0

I had this kind of letter about 5 years ago where my meter (prepayment) broke and failed to take of the amount of electric i was using, in another words it only took for standing charge, this went on for about 18 months they reckon before it came to there attention, they did ask for payment to be taken back at a set amount but i refused as it was not my fault and a new meter was fitted and no problems since then that was with EDF.

or it could be part of a batch that they suspect may have issuesDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

Its just a letter to say they have detected a possible fault.
This could be because registers have stopped from the incoming readings or a recent meter reader visit had reported it to them. Its unlikely its slow or fast as the customer normally spots that, not the supplier, since only you know what appliances you are running.
Its not recertification as in post #2 as that is not a fault but a licenced activity to change meters are these reach the end of their life as documented by the National Measurements Office (NMO).
Suggest you ask them.
Be wary of this because it could mean some additional billing based on estimates or even a rebate which could be lower than you can negotiate.
Ask and post for more advice.:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0 -
I received a similar letter last week from Enterprise (supplier NPower) saying they were coming next week to fit a "new" electricity meter. (Im in work at the moment,so only have a few details). But the rs has advised that they have installed a reconditioned one (as advised by the fitter)?? should I be concerned?
thanks0 -

Meters are often reconditioned but this means they were sent back to the manufacturer to do this and it went through all the required tests again. So, they have certified it again.
If by this they meant it came out of one property and into yours, that's not reconditioning as it just means it was in the depot and got reallocated. This is fine as long as its still within its certified life, which they check before sending back out.:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0
