Help my Lollies got fleas!!!!!!

OMG

I posted the other day about poor Lola she has started scratching and chewing herself, gave her a good onesover saw nothing she had another bath after getting muddy on her walk in the cemetary, so again washed brushed and checked.....nothing her coat is very light and short she is a shi tzu!!!
I have had her about 7 weeks now and she has had two treatments of Effipro flea treatment!!!
So I come downstairs this morning and Lola is scratching away so I say come one lets have another look and I saw a blooming flea:eek::eek::eek::eek:
She is nearly 8 months old now and I guess the Effipro isnt working I have given her 2 lots since having her, the vets are closed today so I dont know what to do:(
Is there anything superstrength I can buy that will work or am I best waiting until tomorrow, I know the vets can give them an injection cant they???
Just put her bed and towel on a boil wash, she spends half her life running around the cemetary chasing rabbits and squirrels, could she of caught them there???? Shall I walk her somewhere else do you think, but she really loves it in there:D.
Will my house be infected with them now....

Please help any advice great cos I dont know what to do, and I feel really itchy now.

Don't know about the treatment you use as I've never used any form of flea treatment for years, your house will be infected unfortunately and will need to be sprayed. The one time one of my dogs had one flea ( 12 years ago ) I bought a spray from the vet and sprayed all the carpets, the curtains, the dog bed, our bed and the couches.
  • I'm not really sure what to suggest as alot of people are saying frontline doesn't work anymore but if you wanted to try it you can buy it in a chemist, and indorex for your house. Around here our sainsburys chemist is open on sundays.

I would wait until the vet is open, get some Stronghold for the dog and some Acclaim for the house.

There are lengthy threads on this it is worth running an advanced search. You can pick up fleas anywhere dogs or cats go unfortunately, eggs can even come into the house on your shoes or clothes. Yes your home will be infested, you need to treat all the flooring, sofa, mattress, car, under and behind all the furniture.

I would wait for vet opening and see what he says, the full house will need to be treated.

Also, don't mean to offend you but you say the dog runs about the cemetery, is it an old unused cemetery ? Maybe it's just be but I would find it pretty disrespectful to visit the cemetery and see someone letting their dog run around (or children for that matter).

The vets was open thank god, she has had an injection to stop her itching and the vet gave me prac-tic for her, but she has effipro so i dont know the difference

As for the cemetery, it is the hugest place with lots of gardens, tons of people walk their dogs in it, she is not being disrespectful at all, I wouldnt do something like that, as I say its a big very old place!

Forgot to add got the acclainm, have sprayed whole house, washed all the bedding covers off the sofa etc...... so fingers crossed

You might still see them for a few weeks, the eggs will still be hatching but the Acclaim should see them off.

    Good luck!!

  • You should definetly take her to the vet since fleas can be really dangerous to puppies and be aware that some of the flea treatment products can be used on puppies either.
