Very Odd Drive Problem

Any help much appreciated... Bit of a weird one...
My pc keeps telling me my E drive is full or almost full... when i open my computer it says..... 46 gb free of 1.36tb
When howeve I open the drive to look at the files so i can delete... the number seems lower.... What I mean bythis is if I highlight all the folders and files in that drive, right click and elect properties, they only add up to 475gb...
Question is, whre is the 800 odd gb that is missing....
Again I appreciate yrou help with this
P.S. recycle bin is empty
