Dog left for a week without water

Just seen this - http://www.dognews.co.uk/couple-left-dog-water-week-holiday/

A couple left a dog without water and with only a few biscuits for a week while they went on holiday.
The courts only banned them from keeping animals for three years. Its no wonder there is so much cruelty in this country if they get petty sentences like that.
Makes my blood boil!! :mad: :mad: :mad:

    Poorly reported in that link. Whilst the facts per the local paper don't paint them in a much better light, the dog was at least outside rather than "alone in their home"; in the absence of any other info, you can assume the animal had access to a little water.

    The report I saw was from Dog News, you areright, it didn't give as much detail, apparently they also had to do community work;

    Still no excuse for leaving the dog like that, although it seems from your link, the dog had been living in appalling conditions for a long time. Poor little soul, I hope it gets a good home where it will be loved.

    I think anyone who is cruel to any animal should be banned from life from having pets and, in a lot of cases, they should spend some time in prison.

    There is no excuse to illtreat an animal and if someone does why would they change in future?

    I wouldn't even leave a dog overnight. When my dog was alive he was never really left for more than about 3 hours and that was rare. If me and OH were going out for a meal or to the cinema etc we would pay for a dogsitter

    I would like to give my opinion but fear I would be banned...:mad:

    One of the big problems with this punishing everyone who is cruel is much cruelty in animal terms is not seen as cruelty by their owners, who love them dearly and whose humanised version of their pets needs actually impaired the animal's quality of life or health.

    Peoe have different expectations of where cruelty starts. Some people feel any working animal is 'exploited and cruel' and zoos and safari parks too, others feel pet keeping at all is wrong, others that pets are ok of they are 'traditional pets'.

    Cruel is actually a very difficult line to draw that animal scientists do not agree on...the law's attempt is by necessity even less aware of the minutiae.

    I did wonder if they had been let down by someone not coming in to care for the dog - but, it is clear that this poor dog had been neglected for some time.
    I think they should have had a 'lifetime' ban!

    I do think paying for a dog sitter when you are out for a couple of hours may be a bit OTT, but I agree with your first sentiment.
