Car insurance - foreign licence

Hi all

I'm British and have lived here all my life. I have had a Canadian driving licence for one year and prior to that had a UK one for six years.

I have never owned a car and therefore never had insurance. I'm thinking of buying a car later this year.

Am I likely to be charged more for insurance because I have a Canadian driving licence rather than a UK one?

If you had a UK licence for 6 years surely you still have it...or did you surrender it to get the Canadian one? If that's the case you should contact the DVLC about getting your original licence re-issued. Sorry this doesn't answer your query!

Thanks for the reply - that is the situation and I'm aware of this avenue :D but wanted to see if there was a way of keeping the Canadian one (it was expensive)!

Could you not just apply to the DVLC for a replacement UK licence for your 'lost' one & then you would hold both?
