Ice Rink lost daughters shoes

Hiya,
Hope this is the right place to post this, apologies if it isn't.
I'm posting this on behalf of a situation of someone else I know.
Her daughter went to the ice rink, she came home with the wrong pair of shoes...they aren't hers, so hers were given to someone else.
Mother has contacted the Ice Rink and they say that there isn't a lot that can be done and that the manager can not authorise a reimbursement of the price of the shoes.
I'm sure I read somewhere, or watched a TV programme that talks about the fact that places like this can be held responsible for personal items left in their care, even if they have a disclaimer saying otherwise?? Maybe I'm wrong.
Can my friend do anything? Thanks

Your friend may have trouble proving it now, her daughter should have told them they were the wrong shoes before leaving and not just accepted someone else's0

Yes, I thought of this. Doesn't look too good that anything can be done. Lesson learnt by the teenage daughter! I hope! Thought I'd ask though.
Thanks for taking the time to read my post and put a reply Fosterdog.0 -
Well you have some bodies shoes, kinda hard for them to argue the claims you are making to them. Send a letter, it's likely their response will be an apology, and hopefully e incriminating by admitting guilt.
Push them hard enough I'm betting you could get something from them0 -

If a teenage girl is incapable of recognising her own shoes, or of speaking up when she is given the wrong shoes, it's hardly fair to hold the ice-rink responsible. Let the girl pay for new shoes from her pocket money.0

That's a bit mean, she could have learning difficulties or be nervous, we don't know.
