Oh. my budget (for 2 adults, 2 primary aged kiddies and a small dog) is £150 the first fortnights shopping and £130 for the second fortnights shopping. I buy cleaning stuff the first 'big shop' hence why I add another £20.Interest rate 1.25%, offset mortgage Woolwich0

Hi MISS MONEYSAVER.
We are doing what you're doing but the difference is that we see the savings adding up by buying it back at full price. Before I started this I wouldn't have any more money to show for any bogofs or other bargains that I had bought. But now because I put that money in my second purse and eventually transfer it over to my third purse when I have a £100 float in my second purse, I have saved over £400 this year. Also, because I have built up my float in my second purse I have a lot of spare money to buy bargains that I may not have otherwise been able to afford. Does that make it any clearer? I'm not very good at explaining it, I just know it works for me.

I am new to this board and have been reading the info on the 1st purse, 2nd purse thing. I still don't get it!
I don't see the difference between what you doing and buying BOGOF and making 2 meals out of it (saving that way). For example, I meal plan and do 2 weeks shopping at a time. I usually try to buy stuff on offer (1/2 price/BOGOF) and make meals around that. So, if I get a BOGOF for one meal I use the FREE meal for the 2nd week. Isn't this the same way of saving or am I missing something?
When you buy back stuff from yourself aren't you just paying for the item at full price rather than 1/2 price?
Yes you are saving but you're physically saving the money that you're saving so its not being 'lost'
Whenever I've had a BOGOF I've put the money I've saved into a pot and then used it to buy that one thing that I've wanted but was saving to treat myself with. If I have money off coupons I've put the money I've 'saved' into the pot as well.
I've only been doing it a short while and I've saved nearly £50 ....0 -
Hi All,
I've been away a long time but I am been plodding along with the system. I've saved about £214 for Christmas, spent £37 of it last week stocking up on some Christmas treats and a couple of presents so now have about £177.
I don't feel that successful with the system at the moment, a bit disappointed with my collection since the beginning of the year. I need to get more focused. Then again its all money I would never have had for Christmas
Think I need a bit of a kick up the bottom (I'm sure one of you ladies can do the honours!), my store cupboard is rather low and not keeping such good track of my system.
Also been struggling a little with my health and my daughters, realised that daughter has several severe food allergies (unknown to us before - don't ask!) and I have several food intolerances so having to avoid a lot of food and the food we need seems to be more expensive, and of course her's are different to mine!
Anyway enough of the moan, Christmas is coming! :jSecond Purse Challenge

I've not really gone much either recently but there again our grocery shopping has been relatively low anyway
However today we went shopping and there was an offer on where you could either buy 2 single tins for £1 or a multipack of 4 for £3....so I bought 4 single tins...and still managed to save a £1 lol.
As far as I am concerned the supermarket just contributed £1 to the clearing of my debt.....would be ironical if a supermarket cleared my debts for me eh?
I mentioned this challenge to a work colleague ...I've challenged her to do it for 3 months and see how much she saves towards a holiday she wants to take next year....my betting is she'd be shocked!0 -

Just done a long post and lost it:mad:
Briefly, I now have just over £100 worth of "stock" and £10.36 in my 2nd purse. I started with £10 plus Amaz*n vouchers which I used to "buy" 5 x 4 packs of replacement heads for my electric toothbrush for £7.59. These cost at least £10 per pack at the SM or chemist but usually more like £15! So I'll pay £10 for them when I need them, a good "profit" for the 2nd purse when I need to buy them.
Quite a bit of my "stock" is non-food items and there seems to be more "profit" in them than food items so far; but that could be because I haven't found any good bargains in my local shops, other than 1/2 price B*anston beans in Mr Ts, although I only bought one pack for stock as that was all that was on the shelf when I went shopping.

Great thread! Just read it all the way through - it's taken me days!:)
I started this a week ago, hoping to build a nice 3rd purse for holidays next year.
Would be lovely to hear how all the 2nd pursers are doing now.....
