NTL/Virgin contract cancellation

My daughter has had to move back in with us and has tried to cancel her ntl/virgin phone line and broadband service. When she phoned up she was told that she would have to pay a lump sum of £300+ which doesn't sound right to me. She doesn't have any contract details we can look at, but she is adamant that she was unaware of being on a 'long term' contract and that she didn't sign anything. We've tried searching through their website for some information but with no success.

I've visited this site before and I think I remember seeing a similar thread a while ago which had lots of useful advice from others but I can't find it now.

Can anyone out there help us please.

there is a 30 cancellation with virgin so if its within that period you should be ok.
if you have a cable contract and move to a NON CABLED area then they dont usually ask for the rest of the years rental.
