British Gas Energy Extra Insurance

I'm with British Gas and was wondering if anyone else has had Energy Extra 50 (Central Heating Boiler Cover Insurance) added to their quarterly bill without requesting it?
After a horrendous year dealing with illness and subsequent family bereavement I have eventually caught on to the fact that this has been added for the last 16 months.
I do not have a central heating boiler so would have no use for this cover and certainly would not have requested it!
I contacted British Gas immediately and they are arranging for a Complaints Manager to contact me within the next 5 days.
I know I was slow to notice this but it's only now I'm back to functioning normally. I'm really concerned at how this has happened and no explanation has been offered, in fact the person I spoke to implied he thought I may have forgotten I took this insurance out.

This isn't a PPI complaint of course.
However, if indeed this was added without you explicitly requesting it, then of course you have a valid complaint for mis-sell-especially as you don't actually have a boiler.
Do be aware that if you did somehow apply for this cover (and can't remember doing so), then you really don't have a complaint.

However, you may still get a "goodwill" refund on the basis that it was completely useless to you by providing cover for a product you do not possess.
