Clunking Gears - Query

Options
Just bought a 2.0l Ford Focus 56 plate.

Changing gears 1-4 (seems to be only up, not down) there is a 'clunking' noise - wondered what this might be / how to work out the issue? Obviously hoping its nothing major as I just paid almost 5k for the car.

Comments

  • Could be worn synchro hubs, or a badly adjusted clutch, or something else.

It's impossible to say for sure, without examining it.

Went through a full service from a 3rd party and passed a 'check over' from the garage - told the seller I wanted to get it done before the sale and nothing came up so confused as to whether its just me ! ;)

Engine mounts. Rev the engine whilsy parked and watch the engine move.

Slight movement is OK, But not excessive.

    Exhaust loose?

What did this 3rd party check involve? Shine a light through the wheels to
see if the brakes are worn yet?
