Hi,
I've been accepted onto a placement in Africa for 5 weeks over the summer (this will count towards my 3rd year placement). Does anyone know what kind of funding I might be able to apply for to help with the cost of this?
I have contacted my LEA and they said they can give me the extra weeks student loan as an extension of my 2nd year if I provide a letter from my Uni.
I desperately want to go as this is close to what I want to do when I qualify but it's a lot of money!!
If anyone has any suggestions, I'd be really grateful,
Thanks

I don't know if it's the same for undergraduates, but the postgraduate bursary had £500 travel expenses included, and you could then apply for more if absolutely necessary. Maybe give them a ring?0

I'm interested in doing a similar thing after my 2nd year but on a different continent. Would you mind telling me which organisation you went through to organise it and whether you had to pay large fees? Also, do you speak any other languages? PM me if you don't want to reply on here.
Thanks.0 -
It was organised by a lecturer at our university. My course is trying really hard to bring more international perspectives into the programme and this is part of it. The lecturer went over and investigated appropriate placements and came back and we applied for them. We will fund everything ourselves (buying our own flights, injections, food etc) so we're not sure how much it will cost, but I like this part of it as I don't like the idea of paying loadsa money to an organisation to sort things for me.
In order for it to qualify as part of our 3rd year placement the lecturer will be in the country whilst we are there and we will have 1 practice observation in the organisations where we are placed.
Don't know if that helps you really, maybe approach your course co-ordinator?0 -
You should ask student services or your LEA about sponsorships, you may be entitled to some help that way. I hope you can sort it out! It sounds fab! Good luck xxSam0
