Don't know about the phrase, but I think it's obvious to have someone driving erratically or bad in front of you where you can see what they're doing, and give them room (or even pull over for a couple of minutes and let them disappear), rather than having them behind you at the risk of them crashing in the back of you because they may be drunk/texting/arguing with their passenger/have dodgy brakes.
  • Yep, many's the time i've pulled over and let someone glued to me tailpipe come by...you want poor drivers in front of and as far as possible away from you.

They are both correct. Years ago, my instructor told me to treat everyone else on the road as a fool about to cause a collision. Good advice saved my bacon a few times.

This obviously does not apply to drivers called Dave. :)

Drivers called 'Dave' tend to treat a driving a car a bit like riding a motorbike. They look for gaps that don't exist, straightline roundabouts and overtake without care or consideration. Well, at least my mate Dave does anyway !!!.

  • Thanks for the time and trouble everyone took to answer my question i guess they are both still kinda correct but i would still rather have a fool in front of me .....
  • If the fool is in front you can slow down and create some space between you and them.

This works for everyone except "Daves" who are concerned about their bacon :)
