Double Charged on My Credit Card - any advice out there ..

We recently stayed at the Waldorf Astoria in NY for a special treat - paid up front on the net - on Hilton's website.

Anyway, very long story short - they charged us again (over £1000) on the day we arrived - we didn't notice this until our statement arrived - obviously. Since 23rd Feb have been trying to get this money back - Hilton main contacts are a waste of time - they assured us the money would be paid back after we first complained - and guess what - next statement arrive no refund. Since then have been dealing with the hotel direct - not much better - assured us it would be sorted on 25th March - still not back on our account.

They have offered to pay us £125 on top to cover telephone calls (many!!), faxes of statements and interest - but this is seriously inconveniencing us - it is a good job we paid something last month or we would have had a penalty charge on top of the interest. Oh sorry, they are also going to send me a fluffy bathrobe! - feel like telling them to stuff it.

The credit card company - Lloyds don't seem to want to know - does anyone know what our rights are/have any advice?

Hey, they've got to pay for Paris's implants somehow. As for your rights, the CC company is equally liable. I'd recommend ringing them up and reminding them of that.

It's strange that Lloyds don't want to know. Since it's clearly a mistake and the hotel don't seem to be refunding you in anywhere like the time they should be, they can easily do a chargeback to force them to into returning the money.

When you ask them for the chargeback remember to advise them that you will want a full refund in sterling not the dollar equivalent which might leave you short.

Finally Lloyds have asked to write in - before they just kept telling us to contact the hotel! - I'll keep you updated but thanks for the tips

You were soooo right about the $ to £ bit - we lost about £50 in the transaction!

Anyway update - got a cheque for the amount back in $'s - also got $250 compensation for the phone calls, bank charges, interest etc and another $850 for the hassle (a refund for two night's stay! - I know very expensive but it was a special occasion) - after lots of haggling - so all in all in a way glad they did it, lots of hassle, but about £400 up in the end - oh and asked for a Waldorf Astoria bath robe - thought I'd be cheeky!

    Thanks for all the advice:rotfl:
