How much for a replacement R/C/L key?

Options
Does anyone know how much a replacement remote central locking key would cost for a 2001 focus diesel?

I know the dealers would probably charge around £200 to £300 but wondered if there was a possibility of another place doing it cheaper?

I wouldn't mind paying up to £100 but above that seems criminal for something so simple (i.e.. key [£5 to £10] + chip [£10 to £30] + programming [its a basic IT service so not that expensive and takes a few minutes] = £50 to £100 max).

Or is this something only the dealers can do?

Have a look around for adverts locally for "Mileage Correction" or "Dashfixers" as these guys seem to have bought all of the gear to do even complex keys nowadays.

Local independent garage will have all the kit. My mechanic charges £25 as it is a 10 minute job.

So can I just buy any Focus '98 - '00 key off ebay and take it to a garage to get it programmed (or use that site mentioned in this thread)?

If you have 2 keys you can add/remove your own new keys.

Remote fobs program yourself in seconds.
