Received card not requested

Hi all

My dad has just received a Chameleon Pre-Paid Visa Credit Card issued by CitiBank. The PIN and card arrived in seperate envelopes. Trouble is - he hasn't applied for it.

The website offers no support until you enter the card number.

Is it normal for companies to do this or is this an attempt at identity theft?

Thanks

If he has not requested the card. Then contact them. Surely the insets with the card give some contact details.

ID theft ??? Well if he has not done it then clearly someone else has....

If he did not request then maybe someone is using his details to apply for the card, he needs to contact Citibank!

  • Thanks all.

I could understand if it was a credit card. But not a pre-paid one!!

What possible benefit would be gained when you have to load the card with cash?

Has he applied for cashback from a purchase, Bosch did this with their white goods purchase cashback scheme.
  • He says he hasn't and he has no other cards. He certainly hasn't completed some online form as he has no Internet access.

He also doesn't "share" an address with anyone except Mum and she's savvy with this sort of thing.

    Strange indeed.

Maybe, but should be able to clear it up with a quick phone call to citibank - I would, before I found out that there is some intricate scam that could lose me money or cost time to sort out.
loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.

Why on earth is it worth speculating over the 101 things it might be. Just ring them and ask.

Err.. Because this is a credit card forum and I don't want to be suckered into some premium rate phone call trying to find out!? And I asked if anyone else had heard of this before.
