Glow-Worm 28KW advice
Hi,
We are changing to Gas and had a couple of quotes. The installer i would like to use says the above boiler is big enough for my house. We have 1 bath which would need hot water and there are 4 sinks in the house. I also have 11 radiators, will this be big enough? Reading reviews is designed for small/medium houses.

It will be more than big enough to cope with your radiators.
Combis are always sized for HW usage.
28Kw will give a reasonable bath filling time in mid winter.
You will need at least 13 l/m cold flow to make this boiler worthwhile though.
I assume the proposed installer has checked the water flow?0 -
Thats great thank you. Its with other quotes telling me its too small it worried me. Our water flow is at the top we have great presure. Funny enough the only person who checked this was the guy who said the 28 will be more than fine. So im please you agree. Thank you its put my mind at rest.It will be more than big enough to cope with your radiators.

We have 9 radiators (one of which is a whopping 6' x 2')
We also have 1 bath, 1 mains pressure shower and a total of 4 sinks/basins
We have a 30,000 btu boiler (so about 9kW) which keeps us nice and toasty even in the coldest temperatures (but it's not a combi!)0 -
just our of inetrest i saw you had electric wet heating- what is the reason for you changing to gas? we are looking at an electric wet heating system but worried about costs- can you give us any advice on this?0

Maybe you could elucidate further as to what attracts you to an electric wet system?
Strikes me as the worst of both worlds. i.e. the high cost of electricity and the added complications of a wet system.0 -
Why would anyone with access to mains gas even consider a wet electric system (with the fuel 3.5 times the price)?
The usual answer to this is 'lower maintenance costs', which doesn't convince me one bit, with an annual boiler service at about £75.No free lunch, and no free laptop
