Dear all, suppose some hacker stole and changed your Gmail password, is there anything you can do to take it back?
Can you contact Google for help? Of course you can creat a new gmail account, but then you will lose everything in your old account.
My sincere thanks,

Is this a real or hypothetical problem?"A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

if hypothetical,
set it up for 2 step verification.

Yes generate a strong password.
But just in case they do ask a heck of a lot of questions, first date of use, last time you accessed it etc.
Try the cannot access account procedure to see all the questions and then find out the answers, get them all together, print them out and put them in the safest place ever.
Otherwise its a sod getting it back. there is no appeal, there is no human you can talk to.0 -
Keep the account your using and change the password to a more unique one.0

2-step verification is the answer. In fact, the password is only a part of the answer. I am so confident it is what you need, I'll even give you my GMail password on a public forum... my GMail password is 'Ant3l0p3Wars!'. Even with that information, you still can't get at my account without my second-step authentication. The best security is 'something you know plus something you own', that's what 2FA is about, it takes a wee while to get used to, but it is really easy and solid.0

Jeremy Clark said the same thing about his "secure" bank account and then a direct debit was fraudently started from his account to prove him wrong. Any way if we don't know your gmail address - what is the use of knowing your password?"if the state cannot find within itself a place for those who peacefully refuse to worship at its temples, then it’s the state that’s become extreme".Revd Dr Giles Fraser on Radio 4 20170

As the OP hasn't returned are we to assume that their MSE account was registered to their gmail address?

Intrestingly, somobody logged in to my account few monhs ago...how did I noticed that? Google notified me that somebody from Venezuela accessed my account:| so I got it changed in 10 seconds for a new one:D
First lesson: You always can ask Google for help as they keep IP addresses in their database as it can be seen on my example.
Second lesson : I setup same password on kind of 'forum'...that was the problem..it was same pass as to my gmail. Be careful then:]0 -
change the password to a more unique one
I would have thought it either unique or not!0
