Skiing with a 3 year old.

Anyone got any tips for skiing with a 3 year old?
The not so little man will be 3 in December.
Always done skiing on the cheap (ish) but where can we go that's good for the little who to go with? Will he be ok with French speaking staff?
Then I've got to decide to take him out of school. A week of half days missed a 3 could be the diffrence between an Oxbridge first or NVQ in street cleaning?

No kids here but go ski-ing (well, snowboarding). My fave resort has to be Wengen but...Switzerland is not a cheap place. We did it pretty cheaply though by making up extra breakfast rolls for lunch!. The slopes are ace though and the nursery slope is on the doorstep. The ski passes are expensive though for the adults compared to other European resorts. But...there is so much to do there from ice skating, winter hiking , sledging etc
Les houches isn't bad either in France; it's away from the mayhem that can be Chamonix during the season.
In all resorts I've been too the language has never been a barrier; the instructors all spoke superb English.
At the age of 3 he won't be in statutory education to taking him out won't be a problem legally. At that age, all they do is play with glitter anyway don't they???0 -
I had a great short week last season in Davos/klosters and the kids area looked great but I was dossing on a mates floor so I could afford the crazy prices.0

Been going the Alps last couple years, going again in Feb - expensive but love it there.
Why not Drop the little man off in ski school, usually there in groups of 5/6 so he will be with others of his own age and prob the best way to learn, those instructors seem good.
Lets just hope your not in a chair lift and see them off-piste! I've actually seen this little boy, must of been 3/4 ski off a red run into off-piste and ski it better then grown ups!0 -
Have no idea of places to go but your comment regarding Oxbridge or street cleaning peeved me!! sorry just had to comment.Life is like a bath, the longer you are in it the more wrinkly you become.0

I have some advice. Don't go skiing. Go on a family holiday thats suitable for children of 3 years. Somewhere that has lots of activities for this age group. You're last comment also peeved me too!:j Comping wins: Gig tickets, Lovemydog tag, Country Livings Christmas fair tickets
Freebies: Redken hair product, Cow teddy, Pebble grey illuminated compact mirror.0 -

What's wrong with taking a 3 year old skiing? That's how olympic champions are made.
I'm certain the Oxbridge / NVQ comment was tongue in cheek banter.Apparently I'm 10 years old on MSE. Happy birthday to me...etc0 -

Why would you let it do that?
Generally it is drilled by politicitians and the educational establishment that every day of the part time education provided by the state is important and missing a minute will lead to eternal poverty.
Then of course there is nothing wrong street cleaning we would be in a right mess without them but like most parents I have aspirations beyond this for my kid.
As for not being suitable for a 3 year old how is sledging, snow ball fights, building snowmen, swimming (most big ski resorts have public swimmimg pools) and just generally messing about in snow with mum and dad a bad idea? All in the blazing sunshine so you can wear just a tee shirt.0 -
I think my parents took me skiing every year from when I was about 2 - now I love it so they must have been doing something right!0

Unless you are thinking of going skiing in scotland might this be best discussed on another board - this is the UK holidays board.

La tania is very family friendly and has a lovely little ski area for little people. The parents can then get the bubble and a chair up and have the whole of the 3V to explore. That said, I think ski school only take that age for half a day, so you'd either need childcare or to take turns to collect him at lunchtime. I might be wrong on this though0
