External expansion vessel...Any Good?

The expansion vessel looks to have either died or needs re pressurising on my CH boiler.
Local plumber is gong to have a go at repressurising it this weekend, but has said it is hit and miss whether it works.
He has suggested using an external pressure vessel set up if the vessel is completely knackered. He says it's less mess, and will save time and money as to get to the vessel in our boiler it would have to be taken off the wall.
Anyone have experience with these?
Recommended or not?
Thanks

Sounds like a lash up job to me. And will look like one which would be an issue if the boiler is in the kitchen?
What make and model is it?0 -
No problem in haveing an external expansion vessel.
It can be put anywhere within reason in the system.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0 -
the MI recommends that if the expansion vessel has failed that an external one is fitted on the ret pipe as close to the boiler as possible, are you sure it has failed & just doesn't need re-pressuring ? what probs are you having ?I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -
Very easy to check if original has had it.
If there is water coming out of the air valve when pressed it is knackered. if just air or nothing, then just needs re-pressurising.0 -

Its a legit fix...Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

External ones are usually fitted because the one in the boiler is 4x the price of an external one and probably requires most of the boiler to be dismantled to fit it.0

& in the OP's case the whole boiler has to be removed from the wall to change it & therefore they will need a RGI & not just a reg plumber.I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
