cellar tanking

does anyone know about cellar tanking?
I have just started looking into it and have been told its about £500 per wall so around 1.5-2k for walls and floor (shared wall with next door has a cellar so no need to tank that wall).
As its not going to be a bedroom just a playroom office etc I dont need to go through planning etc...or have the floor dug out. Also I have been informed because of the lay of the land there is no point putting in a pump.
I am planning to do all the rest. Insulating, electrics (existing ring), plaster board, plumbing radiator etc and was told this is fine...
Can anyone tell me if this is all correct..
I plan on having another couple of quotes and also so I can cross reference the info I have been given. But would like some more info from those who have had it done.
Thank you
EDIT: The other question is do you have to have the cellar tanked or is it just a good idea? The cellar is dry bar minor penetrating damp marks...

Its most likely a big waste of money.
The cellar is dry now, because all of the walls are exposed and any moisture will quickly evaporate into the air.
Once you start covering them, the moisture can't escape and you can say hello to huge damp and mould problems.0
