Car insurance issues

Options
My fella is a British citizen and driven in the USA on a full licence for over 23 years. He lives in the UK now for 12 months and passed his UK test in June this year. We bought an old Fiesta and had to put him on his dads insurance and now his dad has decided he must get his own insurance. Best price we could get was £1500 and my fella is 45 yrs old

We wondered if we changed car type thatt may help, have we bought the wrong type of car? Where can I find out which would be the best car to reduce insurance p,ease

  • I wouldn't say the car is an issue to be honest

I think you are best off using a broker who specialises more in high risk stuff and who will take consideration of your fella's actual driving experience, meaning they may speak with the underwriters to get a properly tailored quote.

Using the price comparison sites probably won't get you anywhere as the computer does all the work and just sees someone who has had a licence for 3 months, which is why you are getting violated.

So my suggestion would be walking into a high st insurance broker or using a broker who prefers non-standard risks like Adrian Flux, A-Plan, Footman James, Keith Michaels, Graham Sykes etc etc

Assuming you have a decent driving record, add yourself as a named driver too, it usually brings the premium down

Change car and you might get a couple of hundred knocked off that figure, But it probably cost you as much to swap cars.

Unless he builds his own no claims insurance will be pricey.

OP even though your partner is a British Citizen and has passed a UK test nearly all insurance companies load premiums if you haven't lived in the UK for the last 3 or more years. Others load the premium if you weren't born in the UK as well.

As already suggested go and see a broker to see if they can get you a lower quote.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p
