Hi I am looking at buying a Ford Fiesta Titanium, probably 2011 or 2012 plate but I am a little put off by some of the comments I have read on the Internet regarding wheels buckling for no apparent reason.

Does anyone have any experience of this happening to them? Also does anyone know if this problem has been resolved by Ford from a certain year onwards?

Thanks in advance!

  • Buckled wheels usually are as a result of some pot hole action.

Cars with larger diameter wheels and low profile tyres are far more susceptible to such damage.

Plenty of other makes and models of car suffer with the same affliction, so I wouldn't let it deter you from buying the car if it's what you want. If you buckle a wheel, just get one from a breakers yard. Don't get burgled by the ford dealer for another.

Hi thanks for the reply. I see your point but I have specifically read that Ford Fiestas (the current shape) buckle very easily and consequently are possibly unsuitable for purpose. I think people were commenting specifically on the metal used for the alloy wheels.

if this is your concern then buy one with steelies and wheel trims instead.

More than likely people hitting pot holes at speed and trying to blame the fault on the wheel when its really there fault
Or it could be a case of the wheels are engineered for crumpling on big hits as to not damage any parts on the car it was a story for some high end audis although doubt its the case for a fiesta

I'm sorry but the jury still appears to be out in this one, while some eager Fiesta drivers seem to be experiencing this problem (unlike all big wheel beemers) it is too uncommon to point at an outright manufacturing defect.
