In the dark with conveyancing

I'm new to buying property and my conveyancer isn't telling me much.
So i just wondered if someone could tell me roughly what stage i'm at?
this is what has happened so far:
I gave in a form saying what fixtures and fittings are included in the sale.
I got quite a few forms requiring my signature including a contract and transfer of deed.
I got asked a question about drainage search which i answered.
Does anyone know what comes next? or how far i'm away from exchange?
Thank you

I have to pester my lawyer for info! But I am at about the same stage as you. From what I gather I am pretty close to exchange. It's up to the buyer's lawyer to submit any further queries or say they are ready to exchange. Then you agree a completion date.
Good luck!0 -

Yeah I have phoned on a few occasions but they answer like politicians.
The other thing is the coneyencing on the house i'm buying is at an earlier stage i think.. does the conveyencer speed that side of things up so it all falls in to place or will my buyer have to wait?0 -
Ring the conveyancer and the estate agent every week to hurry things along.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

I suggest a trip to your local library. They will have books that explain the house-buying process so you can follow what your solicitor (and others) are doing.0

House purchase process runs like this;-
Offer agreed
Solicitors instructed
Sales memorandum issued by agent
Purchaser applies for mortgage
Vendor's solicitor prepares and issues draft contract
Vendor completes seller's enquiry forms and returns to solicitor
Valuation/survey carried out
Purchaser pays solicitor for searches
Searches requested
Renegotiation of price due to survey findings - if required
Mortgage offer issued
Purchaser's solicitor receives seller's enquiry forms and raises any enquiries
Searches returned
Responses to enquiries
Purchaser visits solicitor to go through paperwork, hand over ID and deposit
Completion date agreed between all parties
Contracts exchanged
Completion takes place.

Thank you , I have answered the search questions.

Do you know how long approx it takes from answering questions to that stage?
Thanks alot for your post, very helpful0 -

Did you go to the library? Kingstreet has provided a brief overview, but
a) there are other minor (or possibly major) activities and
b) each step may have subsiduary steps (eg 'searches' may involve 3, 4, 5 or more different organisations - ALL of which must respond!)
A good book will give full details so you understand what is going on. A forum like this cannot replace a 300 page book!0
