v predictable I know...
this weekend, need to paint / protect fences and shed. All looking a bit ropey. Shed is 20 yrs old but wood still OK. Fence is the usual slot in panels
Need advice on what to buy. Seem to be lots of offers at the moment but how do I know what the good quality stuff is. Some stuff looks so thin, brown water.
Anyone suggest good quality stuff please...or any tips appreciated

I think they have stopped selling creosote due to the effects it has on enviornment and water courses.I use cuprinol shed and fence preserver its one of the pricier ones but i find it lasts a year or two longer than the own brand diy products you can get it in many different colours0

I heard of some people who used to put old engine oil in theirs, probably the old creosote. He was a painter and decorator and used to make all sorts of concotions - his fences always looked good...but then he always seemed to be painting non stop!!0

Old engine oil and white spirit, theres no way the fence will rot after an application......smell like hell!

We use Ronseal 5 minute Fence Finish because we have 60 feet of fence at the back of the house so its the quickest way of treating it with the sponge thingy. Some of the other fence guard treatments look like paint when going on but they do dry to a normal brown colour eventually0

You can get creasote substitute I am sure Wilkos sell it, cant vouch for how good it is though
I am tempted to get that spray stain that Wilkos sell, they do sell the cupionol stain applicator and stain as well as they own a lot cheaper, and much quicker to use on large jobs.0 -
If you have one near Wickes sell their own brand water soluble fence protection paint. Its cheap and works well.0

Last one I used was Ronseal one coat Fencelife, quite good stuff. Pretty thick, kinda jelly-like.
Spraying might be quicker but IMO brushing is better (and cheaper!) as you're pushing it right into the grain of the wood not just spraying over the top0 -
i use the wickes own brand stuff, its ok.
remember to do the job on a damp/rainy day, never on a sunny easter weekend!Get some gorm.0
