Netbook display issues?

I have an ACER apsire 725 netbook which I bought to take on holiday about 6 weeks ago.
I'm currently using it on holiday however I have a slight problem. WHilst typing an email the font/display size started to gradually shrink to the point where I can barely read it. Now on my home laptop (a Lenovo) there is a percentage in the bottom right hand corner which you can click on to increase/decrease what you see.
There doesn't appear to be anything on the netbook and it's almost impossible to use now.
I have fiddled about with the control panel and have increased the size on the desktop but it only really seems to work on the toolbar and desktop etc.
Can anyone help - apart from the fact that I need to fix it to use the netbook until I get home I need to restore it to what I received as I will be returning it to John Lewis for repair as there are numerous other faults with it.
Has to be the worst buy ever!

did this happen inside a browser, if so which one - has the percentage zoom changed in the browser - try clicking view zoom
It can happen with inadvertent use of an external mouse or touchpad scrollbars. eg contol and mouse scroll wheel!!

If it's just the browser, try pressing
ctrl + (ctrl key then plus key) to zoom in0 -

thanks both - that seems to have solved it.
Now if only getting the other carp functionality issues such as the jumping mouse and the intermittent closing down sorted it might be a half decent netbook!NO FARMS = NO FOOD0 -
A lot of problems with netbooks (jumping mouse is one, shrinking display another) can often be traced to the sensitivity of the touchpad and associated gesture settings.
Unexplained shut-downs are often the result of overheating because the fan isn't running. Try knocking (as though on a door) the base of the Aspire a few times.I'm dreaming of a white Christmas.

The shut downs are annoying but by far the most frustrating thing is the fact that sometimes when I genuinely shut down the pc advises it has some updates to process. This has taken anything between 20 minutes and overnight. On 3 occasions I've had to leave the netbook plugged in overnight to complete the updates - once I went back to it at 5am, having left it just before midnight and it still hadn't finished.
The mouse thing is driving me nuts - I can't type a single sentence without the cursor moving lines. John Lewis support claim this is a "feature" of notebooks and I should place a post it note on the mouse and buy a wireless mouse instead.
It seems asking for something which does what it should is downright unreasonable!NO FARMS = NO FOOD0 -
If you are touching the mousepad as you type, they aren't faults.
The mouse settings (scroll features) can all be turned off if required, there is usually an icon near the clock to do this.
If you are unable to type without touching the touchpad, it can usually be disabled with an Fn keypress (eg Fn +F7), and button, or in the bios, or using a software utility. If it's not obvious how, the manual should help.
windows updates happens on all windows machines, and hangs on many from time to time. It can also be turned off (in security center) if you want - the wait time should eventually go away as it should be upto date after a few iterations.!!
