Last JSA payment?

Hi all. I'll try and keep this brief - I'm starting full time employment next week, so I've just signed off JSA. My 'sign on day' was this Tuesday, but I didn't attend (I now know I could have done as my job doesn't start till next week). Anyway, I enclosed my sign on form in, singed it declaring that, 'i would no longer be claiming as I was starting full time work,' and included the date when I wanted my claim to stop (21.09.2012). I posted this last night.

So, I'm just wondering when my last payment will be paid? As I didn't sign on this week I take it my claim will have been closed anyway, but will I receive a payment up until then? I've just checked my bank account and nothing has been paid in today (which it would have been had I still been claiming).

If anyone has any personal experience of singing off or information regarding this, I'd appreciate.

Many thanks.

  • I don't think you will receive anything as you never signed on this week!! But they may pay you something, when they receive your booklet after they close your claim.

But I'm not too sure, maybe someone will come along soon with better advise to give you.

Right, I thought they paid you up until you signed off? I might be wrong though. Thanks for your answer.

Sorry I don't know the answer to your question but would like to congratulate you on getting a job. Hope you enjoy your new life.
  • If you dont sign on on required day and at required time you recieve a sanction for the period that you have meant to have signed for. this would equate to 2 weeks jsa.

you should receive a letter through soon which would allow you to appeal this along with the notification of you closing your claim.

But best bet is to ring the Jobcentre benefit delivery centre which will be headed at top of any letter that you've received from them.

Only if you've fulfilled all the requirements to get it which includes signing on when told and for some reason you decided not to.

'decided not to' because I'm about to start full time employment...

I don't quite think you understand my post. I'm not asking will I be paid for this week, I know I won't because I didn't sign on. I'm enquiring as to the previous week. I thought if you signed off in between signing on, you were paid a percentage of your fortnightly benefit?

What you should have done is gone in on tue and told them you were signing off and handed the form in. You would then have got your 2 wks money as normal and a further part week payment next week ie from weds to the day you sign off.

JSA is always paid 2 wks in arrears so each time you sign on you are confirming that you were looking for work in the preceeding 2 wks. If you don't sign on they disallow you from the day after you last signed so no money is owed. Unless you contacted them and they told you to just sign off and they would sort it out you will struggle to get anything.

If the above applies and they told you just to send the sign off form in, once that is put onto your account there would be a payment for the whole period.

Reread your initial post, if you are saying you were due to sign on on the 25th, but send the form in signing off on the 21st ie before your signing date, then yes you would get the money from when you last signed ie 12th to 21st. It would be released on the day your sign off was processed so it will depend how busy the office is. It takes 3 full working days to go into the bank (not including the day of release). Looks like it may not land till the end of next week.

OK, thanks for letting me know that. I actually sent the form off after my sign on day (not the wisest thing to do, i know), so will this affect any possible payment?
