Electricity provider, changing multiple things at once
Hi all,
Complete newbie here. I couldn't find this question being asked, so I hope it's not a common and annoying one.
I've just moved into a rented flat which has about the worst electricity deal you can possibly imagine: Southern Electric with a pre-payment meter, and economy 7 tariff with no storage heaters or hot water timer.
Most of the sites tell you how to switch one of these things (provider, payment type, economy type), but I have no idea how to go about switching more than one or indeed all three at once. Have any of you wise people tried it, and can you give me any guidance on where to start?

You may need to switch supplier to get a meter change FOC. When you switch you must specify if you want a single rate or E7 meter . Some suppliers will allow a single rate tariff on an E7 meter, they just combine the 2 readings.
Switching meters will usually require the consent of your landlord.

You can't change all 3 at once.
Only the supplier at the time can arrange for a change of payment type (e.g. from PPM to credit meter)0 -
if its an SSE key meter (either a white actaris or itron) then these can be reprogrammed with a handheld using the key from E7 to general domestic or viceversa, without the need to change the actual meter...0

They can issue a command remotely but its been banned last year in a Working Practice done in the industry because there was no update to the Meter Operator hence the meter/key data didn't match everyone's data.
I didn't know engineers could do this from a handheld using the key though. Is it a Meter Operator job, hence the update reaches the supplier & Data Collector?
How do you add the E7 settings given there are multiple versions in some regions?
I don't think the WP mentioned engineers doing it.:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0 -
Get the meter changed if you can. Whilst some suppliers add units together, others won't so if you switch you may be back to square one.
Some meters are allowed to operate in standard mode but given the issues with such as SP, they won't honour this.
Bit of an industry grey area.
If you have the metet changed, they can change it to a credit meter on a single rate in one job. As long as you have no dedicated off peak load, there won't be an issue.:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0 -

Each SSC for each supplier has a tariff code on the handheld, you just change tariff on the handheld and reinsert the key...0 -

Thanks, that's very interesting.
Does it let you choose any or restrict you to choosing a SSC with the same clock times?:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0
