MBNA Credit Limit Question

Hi Guys,

My partner has a perfect credit history, no debts.

She has applied for an MBNA platinum C/C with 20 months 0% for money transfers, and has been assigned a £2300 credit limit.

My question is are MBNA likely to consider raising this limit, as she wishes to borrow approx £8000 for a period of 6 months and then repay in full, to take advantage of the 0% period.

Is it worth phoning them to ask for an increase for this purpose, or are the limits set in stone?

Thanks guys.

not that big of limit, as hers is a quarter near enough
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

Unlikely they will raise it. They don't usually consider it until they have seen the account working well for a few months.

I'd guess they may consider an increase of a few hundred at best.

Telling them that she wants to borrow a large amount at 0% and repay before they start charging interest isn't likely to be something they want to jump at.

Credit limits can sometimes be raised at the activation stage with new accounts but usually only by 10-20%. Sometimes this will need to be referred to the underwriting dept. who could ask for proof of salary/income to support such a request. There are no guarantees.

However, It is highly unlikely, if not impossible to get the limit you want at this stage. MBNA are known for high limits circa £20-£25K, your partners is small for which they'll be a good reason in that they don't think she could support any higher based upon credit file/application info.
