Landlord has not lodged full deposit

My housemates and I are moving out but the landlord is being difficult about the desposit (the usual story - grass not cut etc). He hasn't lodged the full deposit with a scheme - £1200 not £1250. Can we potentially use the law as leverage?

Are you disputing any of the retentions? Was there a check in inventory detailing the condition of everything including the garden?

What evidence do you have that the deposit which you handed over was more than what has been protected?
