Improving tablet wifi.

Hello.
I have just bought one these tablets http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ployer-Momo8-IPS-Tablet-Pre-Installed/dp/B0096DKGJW/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1348829047&sr=1-2
I am very pleased with it but the wifi is useless. Downstairs about 10ft away in the lounge i get all bars but if i go upstairs i get 1 bar or nothing. Sky router in the hallway and maybe 15-18 ft line of sight away. In the room i want to use has a computer that gets 4 sometimes 5 bars ok so ithink the router is ok.
I have a android phone and have been told i can use that as a hotspot but can i get that to connect through wifi to the router and tablet to mobile as i dont want to use phones data.
Hope somebody can help me.
