Ipad phisching scam - advice please

Long story short - DS1 has been looking for work and has been scammed by a phisching email. He has clicked the attatchement (ARGGGh!) on his Ipad. Nothing untoward appears to have happened but I'm clueless as to what damage it might be doing and how to rectify it

What steps should I take to secure it?
Thanks in advance

It is highly unlikely any damage was done as iDevices are famously hard to 'hack'
If in doubt you can do a factory reset on it, not too difficult via iTunes.
  • Unless it is jail broken then there is nothing that can be installed on the phone hence it is "safe" from viruses (for now at least).

If it is jailbroken then you have circumvented this protection and you can in theory have issues but I havent heard of anything anyone has written yet other than dodgy actual apps

Thank you both - looks like the ipad is ok then:)

Unfortunately have now realised he opened it yesterday on his laptop too. Plus given all his personal info obv in form of CV. Thankfully not bank account details or anything like that

Will run virus scan on lappy and check his bank accounts - anything else I should be doing??
  • Just ensure that you have decent anti-malware software (eg kaspersky) on the laptop and it is set to auto update its definitions and to auto quarantine any detected issues.

If this is done then anything they open will have already been scanned and will be "safe"
