Can anyone recommend any firms they've used?
AA is very expensive, but is the cost justified?
I would especially like to hear from anyone who has actually had to claim on the cover they've taken out.
Thanks

Same here people
Ive got a price on joint membership couple of weeks ago for £90 and thats for everything excluding homestart
But when i just rang to go for it its now gone to £100 (same as internet price) apparantly the guy didnt save the quote or anything0 -
I've been with loads (stopped the AA about 20 years ago because it was getting too expensive even then!).
RAC I didn't have brilliant service from I have to say, logistics problems.
Green Flag was good, they used local breakdown companies at the time so the call-outs didn't take long to sort out etc.
Rescuemycar.com was also okay for call-outs and service (they also use local breakdown companies).
I'm with IC Breakdown now, have been for the last couple of years and they've been great so far. Last Christmas Eve I had to call them out, again, they use local breakdown services, they were there quickly, the phone service was easy and helpful, and the local company was also very easy to communicate with, they text their phone number etc and ETA after the initial call from me.0 -
Have to say icbreakdown are a great company when my son broke down and his mobile phone was flat,He went into a local taxi company to use there phone rang us at home and we rang icbreakdown they could not have been more helpfull they rang the taxi company to sort his recovery then rang us to confirm they were sorting it several times,Thats a company who care unlike most rip off companys.0

Tricky,
Tricky here (sorry I couldn't resist), I've used ASDA for the last couple of years. £5 per month ain't bad and iirc, that includes home start too. Waiting time when I last used them was about an hour though and they did send a totally unsuitable van (or rather their contractor). They sent him out to 'fix it' despite me telling them there was no way it would be driveable due to the breather system being clogged (I knew about it but hadn't done anything with it for 1.5 years). Instead of sending out a recovery truck they sent a bloke in a van to try and 'fix it' (a job that takes a min of 8 hours). He eventually towed me home on a rope which was a little disturbing as he wasn't exactly gentle when pulling away...
Can't beat them on cost though.

Thanks everyone - based on responses above and some independent research I have also gone with IC Breakdown. I sincerely hope they are as good as described should I need to use them!0

I work in the Industry so be very careful. Using small independant garages through Ic and Britannia is all and well but when they come to you at the roadside the majority of the smaller garages do not have the equipment or diagnostics to get you back on the road. When a company advertises 80-90% cars are fixed at roadside, the majority of these call outs are flat batteries and wheel changes, in another words simple things.
I will not state who I work for but stick to the top 3.
sometimes , they may be a little later than Britannia or Call Assist etc but do you want your car fixed, even if a temporary fix ...........or would you prefer the hassle of a tow to a local garage or to the other end of the country on a lorry going 56 mph and when you get there you still have an unroadworthy car0
