Help re wrong item sent

I bought an item last week and payed £10 postage. It arrived yesterday but was the wrong item, it was delivered by My Hermes. I contacted the seller and they had sent my item to the other person.

Seller wants me to send parcel to other buyer via My Hermes, they rang me to sort it out. I said I would give it a go but registering is taking ages and my printer is unreliable and labels have to be printed.

In addition to this the postage on both items was actually £5.99. So seller was making at least £3 extra on postage for my item. I mentioned this and was told that it was because they had had to pick the item up from a relation as it wasn't theirs!

What I want to do is send the item I have to the new owner via signed for royal mail---or back to seller the same way.

What would people think was fair?

SP.

Personally I would return the item (tracked) to the seller, if it went missing en route to other buyer you would have no comeback if you tried to claim from eBay as you did not return to seller.

You can ask her to refund the postage costs to return the wrong item which she may or may not do, if you raised a dispute eBay would expect you to return(at your cost) tracked to get your money back.

As for the over the top p&p costs, you agreed to that by buying the item! Prior to buying you could have questioned the price and then proceeded with the sale or not bothered. Some sellers do charge over the odds for p&pso all you can do is leave a lower * rating for delivery costs when doing feedback and/or report to eBay if you feel the postage was unfair but I doubt they would do much.
Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.
  • I agreed to the postage in the description which was royal mail---not other or courier.
I'm not a 'reporting' sort of person TBH---I'd rather just have a quiet stress free existance!
    Thanks for the advice.

You can leave feedback along the lines of paid for RM, but sent via differnet method or along those lines. Plas as has been suggested leave the rating against P&P as you see fit. I wouldn't be happy paying for a service and getting another, have you raised this with seller?
  • Raised it on the phone and was told that the extra was to pay for them to collect the item from the relative they were selling it for.
I need to sort this wretched, badly wrapped and now undone, package out first! I am not sending it anywhere without payment up front, I can't afford to.

In that case and assuming item is of the same value I would keep hold of the item until seller sends money for its return.

Seller has everything to lose here and should be treating you with kid gloves, not giving you the run around.

As for the extra postage, I do not agree that you agreed to the cost before you bid- that is nonsense as you cannot possibly have known the cost in advance. One tip though , stars hit a seller much more than feed back .
